Have you ever had that moment when your dog, cat, or other beloved pet looks at you, and you just know what they’re asking for? Whether it’s that unmistakable “feed me now” glance or a hopeful gaze toward the door for a walk, you’ve already experienced the beginning of animal communication.
But did you know that this connection can go much deeper?
Animal communication isn’t reserved for people with some superhuman gift. It’s a skill that anyone can learn—and chances are, you’re already doing it without even realising it!
Let’s explore what animal communication is, how the process works, and how you can strengthen your ability to connect with your pets on a whole new level.

What Is Animal Communication?
Animal communication is an intuitive exchange between you and your pet. It goes beyond physical cues like wagging tails, barks, or purrs, tapping into a deeper, more subtle connection. This often involves picking up on their energy, emotions, or even thoughts.
At its heart, animal communication is about listening—not just with your ears but with your intuition. Animals are incredibly perceptive and naturally communicate in ways that transcend words. As you begin to tune into their unique “language,” you’ll start to understand not only what they need but also who they are on a soul level.
What Does the Process Look Like?
When practicing animal communication, the process might feel unfamiliar at first but becomes natural with practice. You may feel silly at first, and think “am I making this up in my head” so trust in the process is key ! Below are some first steps you can take to open that communication up between you and your pet.
Here’s an overview:
Creating a Calm Space
Begin in a quiet, distraction-free environment. Both you and your pet should feel relaxed. Take a few deep breaths to center yourself and clear your mind.
Observation and Awareness
Start by watching your pet closely. Pay attention to their body language, facial expressions, and the way they move. This is the foundation of understanding their communication style.
Opening the Connection
Focus on your pet and imagine sending them loving energy. You can even say in your mind, “I’m open to listening to you.” This sets the intention for the conversation. I like to visualise or imagine a golden thread from my heart space flowing to their heart space to make a connection. Then I ask for their permission to communicate with them.
Listening with Your Intuition
Messages from animals often come as feelings, mental images, or even words that pop into your mind. You might suddenly think, “I want to go outside,” or feel a sense of calm or urgency that reflects their emotional state.
Trust What You Receive (Trust, Trust, Trust!)
One of the biggest challenges is trusting yourself. It’s easy to dismiss these impressions as imagination, but often, they’re not. With practice, you’ll learn to distinguish genuine communication from your own thoughts. Trust the first thing that comes to you, don't let the mind monkeys doubt what you are getting.

You’re Already Communicating More Than You Realise
Animal communication isn’t something you have to “learn from scratch.” Think about the countless ways you already interact with your pet. When they nuzzle you, wag their tail, or meow persistently, you naturally respond. This is the start of a conversation!
Building a deeper connection is about expanding what you’re already doing. For example:
Take Time to Observe:
Notice the subtle differences in their body language—what does a relaxed wag look like versus an excited one?
Practice Being Present:
Put down distractions and spend time just being with your pet. This creates space for deeper understanding.
How to Go Deeper in Communication
Once you’re comfortable observing and responding to your pet’s behaviours, it’s time to explore intuitive communication:
Tune Into Their Energy
Every animal has a unique energy field. Spend quiet moments sitting with your pet and focusing on their presence. How do they “feel” to you? Calm, energetic, or curious
Ask Simple Questions
In your mind, ask your pet a question, like, “What do you want me to know today?” Be patient, and notice any thoughts, feelings, or images that arise.
Practice Regularly
The more you practice, the clearer the communication becomes. Even a few minutes a day can strengthen your connection.
The Magic of Listening to Your Animals
Animals have so much to share with us—about their needs, their happiness, and even their wisdom. One of the most beautiful aspects of this practice is the way it deepens the bond between you and your pet. You’ll begin to see them not just as a companion but as a teacher and a soul with their own unique journey.

Inspiring Stories from Hazeology Healing
I’ve worked with many pet owners who were amazed by what their animals had to share. One dog I connected with conveyed to their owner they did not like where their bed was positioned and this was why they kept peeing on the floor.
We moved the room around and from then on there were no accidents.
A Horse I worked with not so long ago, shared that the bond they had with the owner was very strong but the owner could not feel it because they were not making space to connect. This made sense to the owner who was really still grieving over another beloved horse who had passed on.
A cat I once worked with expressed gratitude to their owner for their care during a recent illness—a touching reminder of the depth of their emotional lives.
A dog I have been working with for years who is going through transition, expressed his desire to enjoy the garden as much as possible before his final journey. before this he had big boundaries and did not share much at all.
Although, It's not always profound stuff that gets communicated, sometimes all the animal has to communicate is about their favourite foods, chicken, carrots sausages etc. I usually feel this happens when the animal is so content and in the present moment that is all that is on their mind.
For myself, it took a long time to learn to trust the process and what was coming through, after doing a course in animal communication, this certainly helped the process. This Animal Communication Journey that I went on, was all down to a horse I met, at a horse sanctuary in 2015, I visited and helped out as and when I could.
I was with a horse doing some energy healing, to help release some stress and anxiety, I was in the stable with him, so not much space to move around. I thought for just a moment this is a bit of small space.
Then the horse took 2 steps to the side to give me more space. Near the end of the session, I started to laugh pretty hard as if someone had told me a funny joke.
At this moment the yard manager came by, she said “ah, I see you met our joker then,” I was baffled as to what was happening.
The yard manager explained he is always joking around and loves to make people laugh. I had a few more experiences that day, and this led me to want to dive deeper and learn more about this skill.
